Abstract

ABOUT İBRAHİM KOCA AND DEDE QORQUD OGHUZNAMAS’S BURSA MANUSCRIPT

When the written sources of the Turkish language, literature, history, and culture are mentioned, one of the works that come to mind is undoubtedly the Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas. Dede Qorqud Epics, Dede Qorqud Stories, etc. which are also known by other names of Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas, have been one of the most widely read and known works both in the past and today in the whole Turkish world. In this respect, the use of Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas as a highly effective tool in the preservation of ethnic and cultural identity (Turkishness, Turkish identity, and Turkish culture) and transferring it to future generations has a great role.

It is known that there are manuscripts of Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas in Dresden, Vatican, Ankara, and Günbed until 2022. However, a manuscript of Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas, which was obtained from the Fadıllı neighbourhood of Bursa’s Nilüfer district in 2018 by a religious officer named Sait COŞAR, was given as a gift to İbrahim KOCA, and then the work was donated to the Muradiye Quran and Manuscripts Museum established by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, and has been exhibited in the specified museum since 2019. The work of Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas hadn’t attracted the attention of the scientific world until 2022. Ersen ERSOY informed the scientific world of the existence of the work; Saadettin ÖZÇELİK also published an introductory article in Türk Dili journal published by TDK.

In this article, firstly, information is given about the collector, culture, and art connoisseur, businessman İbrahim KOCA, who donated the Bursa Manuscript of Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas to Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. Then, the Bursa Manuscript of the Dede Qorqud Oghuznamas and the research and examinations made by us in the region about the source of this manuscript is mentioned.
