Abstract

THE PRESENT STATE OF THE MONUMENTS OF TURK CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION IN MONGOLIA

I attended the 2023 International Summer School for Young Mongolians (Zaluu Mongol Sudlaachdin Zuni Surguul') organized by the Ulaanbaatar-based National Council for Mongolian Studies (Mongol Sudlalın Ündesnii Zövlöl) and the Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science (Bolovsrol Shinjleh Uhaanı Iaam) between 31 July 2023 and 14 August 2023 and on this occasion, I saw and recorded the current state of Turkic cultural monuments in Mongolia. In this context, I examined the previously unknown underground parts of the Tonyukuk Inscriptions (with the Tonyukuk’s tamga at the bottom of the second stone, apart from the same tamga on top of the first stone) by looking into the Tonyukuk Inscriptions in the Temporary Exhibition Hall, where they were moved currently, which was built next to the memorial site. In addition, our study will examine the current status of Turkic cultural artifacts (such as the statue heads of Kül Tegin and Elteriş Kagan) and Turkic inscriptions such as Çoyr, Höl Asgat, Şine Us, Tayrat, currently moved to the 4th floor (dedicated to the Göktürk and Uyghur khaganates) of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, which was officially opened on October 11, 2022, in Ulaanbaatar.
