There have been dialect studies carried out by various Turkish and foreign researchers based on field research since the second half of the 19th century when studies were initiated on the dialects of Turkish as spoken in Turkey and to date. The dialect studies conducted in Turkey, on the other hand, gained speed in terms of quality and quantity, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. All these dialect studies qualify as a guide for later stages. However, one cannot speak of consistency, especially concerning quality, when it comes to studies on the characteristics of the dialects of all the regions in Turkey due to various reasons; while the dialects of some regions are examined a couple of times by different researchers, the same does not apply for other regions. The dialect of central Çıldır, Ardahan, which classifies under the Eastern group of dialects, is among the dialects to have been examined with a limited number of studies. This study is about consonant assimilation, doubling, deletion, and epenthesis in the dialect of central Çıldır which was also subject to another study by the author concerning phonetic consonant and vowel changes. The examples presented here derive from the field research carried out by the author on various dates.
