Proverbs and idioms are an important area of vocabulary that includes people's lifestyles, cultural heritage, and positive or negative memories from the past to the present. The rich spiritual advice and warnings they contain in these formulaic expressions will ensure that future generations act cautiously. When we consider that the basic structure that makes large communities a nation is formed through culture, proverbs and idioms have a great impact on this formation. These expressions, which we will consider as more concise reflections of experiences gained from the past to the present, include culture as well as the values we adopt and protect as a society. Culture, which includes elements such as lifestyle, tradition, custom, family structure, is also closely related to the concept of value, which we can consider more abstractly and which forms the basis of communication and behavior in social relations.
Studies have been conducted on culture and value elements, which are important concepts for society and the state, in recent years based on educational programs. In this study, it was aimed to examine various proverbs and idioms used in some districts of Tokat province in terms of cultural transmission and values. In the study, the document review technique and descriptive scanning model, which are qualitative research methods, were used. In this study covering the province of Tokat, the meanings of 52 proverbs and 25 idioms used in various districts were explained and examined in terms of cultural transmission and values. As a result, it was seen that the use of proverbs and idioms belonging to the Tokat region in Turkish education paved the way for teaching abstract concepts more easily, but these formulaic expressions could be carefully selected and those suitable for child pedagogy could be used in the education and training process.
